UN World Food Programme

Ending hunger and conflicts all around the world

The UN World Food Programme is the largest humanitarian organization in the world focused on hunger. It currently provides food-related assistance to more than 80 million people in 80 countries and responds to food emergencies all around the world. Moreover, the WFP helps prevent hunger in the future.

Recently the Nobel Prize Committee has announced that the WFP will receive the Nobel Peace Prize in 2020. The jury highlighted as one of the motives for this recognition that “this organization not only provides food, it also helps create sustainable communities.” And it achieves to do so by means of programmes that use food to create assets, disseminate knowledge and promote stronger and more dynamic communities, helping them to achieve greater food security.
